About the project
Tucan is an iOS app that transforms how people build and maintain habits. Rather than overwhelming users with streaks, gamification, and noise, Tucan takes a calm, minimalist approach: one tap to mark a habit done, one glance to see your consistency through an elegant dot grid.
Built with React Native and Expo, the app prioritizes clarity and speed. It works offline — marking habits is instant — and syncs seamlessly in the background via Supabase. The design philosophy is simple: less is more.
Key objectives
1. Simplify habit tracking: Create an intuitive interface where users add habits once and track progress with a single tap, without streak anxiety or unnecessary complexity.
2. Make progress visible: Use a dot-grid as the hero to show consistency at a glance, turning daily actions into a visual narrative.
3. Work anywhere: Enable offline-first tracking so users can mark habits without internet, with automatic sync when connectivity returns.
4. Respect users' time: Design a calm, distraction-free experience that doesn't gamify or pressure, just support.
5. Ship a sustainable product: Build with modern tech (React Native, Supabase, Legend-State), implement freemium monetization with RevenueCat, and add native iOS widgets for quick access.
6. Demonstrate thoughtful design: Show how minimalism in mobile apps means solving the real problem — habit formation — without the noise.
